In 2010 Latin American Ministries joined forces with Pastor Roberto Silveira and his wife Isabel, who run Project Cordoba. They are Brazilian missionaries in that city and have lived there for three years. In that time a new church has been opened in one of the poorest districts of the city and a special work begun among the children there. Many families live in this area in little-two roomed houses provided by the government for those who cannot afford to rent. Some of the houses have as many as 15 children and parents do not know where their next meal is coming from. The local school provides a meal for the children during the week, but at the w/e there is nothing. Pr. Roberto and Isabel have an outdoor children's meeting every Saturday, as there is no home big enough to hold them and each week, with the help of LAM, provide a meal for the children too. For many of them it is the only meal of the day. In the coldest winter days when the snow is on the ground and it is too cold for the meeting outside, Pr Roberto and his helpers deliver the meal to the children's homes, so that they won't go without. Recently the church bought a near-by site and the plans are to build a refectory, for daily meals, as well as a church building. |
